A highlight of the SkillsUSA year is learning which member will be selected to sing the national anthem at the opening ceremony of SkillsUSA’s National Leadership and Skills Conference. Selected for the 2020 honor was student Evelyn Morales from Metro Technology Centers in Oklahoma City, Okla. Her advisor is Amanda Eastridge. While the NLSC was canceled as a result of the current pandemic, Morales’ performance will be shared over SkillsUSA’s social media in upcoming virtual events. Watch for an amazing performance and wait to be wowed.

Another anxiously awaited moment leading up to the national conference each year is the announcement of the winners of the NLSC Pin and T-shirt Design Challenge. The winner of the conference’s T-shirt design challenge is Liberty Harris from Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, Ga. Her advisor is Jeff Dykes. This year’s winner of the conference pin design challenge is Madison Tran from the Academies of Loudoun in Leesburg, Va. Her advisor is Deborah Tripp.The T-shirts and pins will not be produced as a result of the NLSC cancellation, but that unfortunate fact doesn’t negate the praise-worthy accomplishments of these two talented designers. From literally thousands of entries, these students rose to the top with their divine designs.
