Just before pandemic-related lockdowns went into place across their state, students at William M. Davies, Jr. Career and Technical High School in Lincoln, R.I., managed to win 4 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals at their state competition. Unfortunately, those lockdowns prevented a ceremony that would recognize these hardworking students. SkillsUSA advisor Samantha Vasquez and SkillsUSA Rhode Island communications specialist Jax Adele Ventura weren’t willing to accept that, devising a plan to recognize and celebrate those medalists while still conforming to social distancing guidelines. Vasquez and Ventura personally delivered medals to the front doors of each student, along with flowers, balloons and official certificates. When the students retrieved their winnings, they were met with applause and a camera to capture it all.
