For nine years straight, the SkillsUSA chapter at Saratoga (Wyo.) Middle/High School has held a golf tournament and a 5k run/walk to raise money for a local cancer foundation. This year, COVID-19 forced the 5k event to go virtual. How does one hold a virtual run/walk event? The chapter — also known as “The TechKids” — found a way, selling shirts and raising awareness online. (Whether or not anyone ran or walked in place in front of a webcam, we are unable to report at this time.) When the dual-fundraiser was complete, the TechKids were able to donate $20,000 to the Corbett Medical Foundation to help cover travel costs for those battling cancer in the community. Over the last nine years, the SkillsUSA chapter has raised over $150,000 for the foundation.
